Introduction

largest international source of funding for population and
Reproductive Health programs. It began operations in 1969
- UNFPA
started the operation in Yemen since early 70s
- The
current country cycle (2002-2006) is being implemented with
total budget of USD 14 million

programme goals
To
contribute to improving the welfare of the people of Yemen
and to reducing poverty through better reproductive health
and integration of population, gender and reproductive health
dimensions into development planning
Major
achievements
1-
Development of key national strategies:
- The
national population policy (2001-2025) and its plan of action
(2001-2005)
- National
strategic frame work for control of and prevention from
HIV/AIDS
- The
national youth strategy
- The
national strategy for women advancement

Ensured provision of RH/FP services in 17 districts within
the 8 target governorates including:
- Training
of skilled birth attendants and 1282 community midwives
in 50 districts within 20 governorates
- Renovation/equipping
120 health units, 50 health centers and 12 hospitals
- Provision
of Reproductive Health and Family Planning commodity in
the value of USD 4 million. Currently, UNFPA in Yemen targets
8 governorates with 17 districts
