A two day long workshop was held with the participation of
the general managers of the regional health offices in five
Yemeni governorates (Lahg, Al-Dale'a, Taiz, Ibb, and Amran)
under the leadership of the Ministry of Population and Public
Health (MPPH). Representatives from the UNFPA, the WHO, the
UNICEF, and the Department of International Development at
the British embassy attended the workshop which was held in
Sana’a from May 27-28.
During the workshop, participants presented
ideas on how to most effectively develop plans to care for
mothers and newborn children in order to reduce to ratio of
mortalities to total live births.
Dr. Arwa Al-Rabei thanked donors and other
supporters of this key project which has been considered as
a good start in terms of the interaction needed between all
collaborators under the guidance of the MPPH with input from
the regional health general managers in the five participating
governorates.
Al-Rabie asserted that the inspiration for
this project was clear from the need for people who live in
far areas and deprive from the medical services mothers and
neonatal children. There is still a large gap between rural
and urban areas in this regard, she added. Al-Rabei insisted
that, regardless of what has been achieved so far, there is
still much work to be done.
