A four day workshop on gender issues, funded by the UNFPA in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, ended. Aimed at training Girl Guide and Boy Scout trainees about gender issues, 24 participants from five Yemeni governorates—Amran, Lahj, Al-Dale'a, Taiz, and Hadramawt—participated.

In the closing ceremony, Abdula Obaid, General Manager of the Girl Guides and Boy Scouts Union thanked the UNFPA for its support of the program. He went on to summarize what participants had learned during the four day workshop: the concept of gender, gender needs and rule, national strategy for developing woman, gender and social development, and the concept of women's empowerment.

Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Shami, UNFPA Communication Officer, emphasized the importance of the workshop and the important role that youth play in changing attitudes in society.

“You are considered an early adopter [of the] gender issue,” Al-Shami said. The role that girl guides and boy scouts play in broadening the awareness of gender issues is critical since they come into face-to-face contact with members of their communities, he added.

At the end of the ceremony, certificates were distributed to workshop participants.
