Hajja, September 27.
In response to Saada humanitarian
emergency, UNFPA shipped to Yemen
emergency medical supplies, including
life-saving reproductive health
supplies, drugs/medication and
equipments to help save the lives of
women and their newborns, by making
delivery safer and emergency obstetric
care interventions accessible to them.

In the main time, UNFPA, Yemen CO and
Arab State Regional Office Jointly
set-up an emergency mission last month
to Al-Mizraq camp in Haradh, Hajja
governorate, to conduct rapid assessment
of Internal Displaced Peoples (IDPs)
needs, especially on reproductive
health, to identify the urgent needs of
immediate support for women and girls.
Based on the recommendations from this
assessment, UNFPA developed a
distribution plan of medical supplies,
drugs, and equipments.

UNFPA partners; including Health Office
at the Ministry of Public Health and
Population in Hajja & Amran, Yemeni
Family Care Association, and the
Charitable Society for Social Welfare
has started distribution of materials to
IPDs in Al-Mizraq camp and Khaiwan camp
in Amran governorate.
UNFPA is also sampling dignity kits,
which will target at least 5000 woman
and girl in IDPs camps. The kits usually
include the stuff that women and girls
urgently need in emergency situation;
such as blankets, female clothes
underwear, hygiene and other items.

UNFPA Representative a.i., Mrs. Zeljka
Mudrovcic headed the mission and has met
with Hajja governor and major greatest
partners that will implementingin the
UNFPA interventions in RH emergency
crisis in Haradh region and
administrative governorate of Hajja. The
governor welcomed UNFPA initiatives,
offering all help that the Governorate
authorities can provide for UNFPA
humanitarian intervention.

In addition, UNFPA conducted a rapid
assessment from 26 to 30 September in
Al-Mizraq to collect data, evaluate IPDs
vulnerability and identify main gaps in
the camp, with a specific focus on
reproductive health. Urgent needs for
immediate support were identified to
prevent maternal mortality and morbidity
among women and girls. Based on the
recommendations from the assessment,
UNFPA will adjust its assistance plan in
collaboration with health offices and
other partners.
