The scale and scope of humanitarian needs remains staggering with 21.2 million people needing some form of humanitarian assistance. This is equal to nearly 80 percent of the population. As February, 18,685 Yemeni’s have arrived in Djibouti and 6,472 have been registered as refugees.

On 18 February 2016, the humanitarian community in Yemen launched an appeal for US$1.8 billion under the 2016 Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan to provide critical and life-saving assistance to 13.6 million people who have been affected by the conflict across the country. UNFPA has contributed through the health and protection clusters of the Plan.

Peace talks facilitated by the UN Special to Yemen, which commenced in December 2015 failed to produce a deal to end the conflict and have not resumed to date.
