Better reporting on Obstetric Fistula

calendar_today 17 April 2019

UNFPA conducted two trainings for media professionals to orient, to advocate and report on obstetric fistula, realising the valuable role the media can play in raising awareness on the issue. The training targeted 50 journalists in Sana’a and Aden (25 participants in each city).

The medical teams from UNFPA-supported fistula units in Sana’a and Aden actively participated in the trainings sessions to provide their technical expertise on the subject.

“The training workshop was very valuable as it shed light on something new. We have not heard about fistula before.”, said Donia Hussein, one of the journalist participants in Aden.

“It is crucial to advocate and produce materials on fistula to let the community know about how serious it is, and how the community could provide support for fistula survivors. Media has a role to play in raising awareness on this subject” Donia added.

The media participants committed to producing different media reports that would be published leading up to the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula on 23rd May. 2019.
