Director of UNFPA's Humanitarian Office visits Yemen

Ms. Shoko Arakaki, the Director of UNFPA’s Humanitarian Office in Geneva had a 4- day mission to Yemen to observe UNFPA humanitarian interventions in Yemen and ways of scaling up the response.

The Director of humanitarian office visited UNFPA-supported expanded maternity ward in Al Kuwait hospital in Sana’a. The expansion which has made it possible for comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care (CEmONC) services to be available through provision of essential equipment, including operating theaters. UNFPA also supports the hospital to provide CEmONC services, through incentives to services providers and covering operational costs of the maternity unit.

She also visited the UNFPA-supported specialized psychological centre that provides specialized and non-specialized psychological services, including services to GBV male and female survivors.

Ms Arakaki concluded her visit in UNFPA’s Women and Girls Safe that provides temporary protection to women and girls escaping gender-based violence as a result of the ongoing conflict and negative cultural practices.
