UNFPA supported the establishment of a specialized psychological care centre in Ibb Governorate, one of the most populated cities in Yemen with a population of over 3 million, hosting a large number of displaced persons, more than half of them being women and girls. The Centre, run by Al Amal Hospital for Mental Health, provides specialized mental health services for survivors of different forms of violence, including gender-based violence, free of charge.
Opening the centre has helped to fill a major gap in mental health services in the governorate. Since its opening, the Centre has served more than 630 survivors in less than a month. The Centre has also been able to serve survivors from neighbouring conflict-stricken governorates such as Taizz and Al Dhale’ who would otherwise have to travel for over half a day to the capital city Sana’a, to seek services.
