With support from UNFPA, solar systems were distributed to ten midwives in eight districts in Shabwa governorate. This alternative energy source will help midwives provide their services 24/7 in rural areas, assisting pregnant women and their new-borns with much needed care, while the country continues to experience severe fuel and power shortages. The support consisted of two solar panels (150 watts), a battery (100 amps), a battery adapter (2000 watts), ten copper conduct, five bulbs, an electric regulator, 30 amperes and other technical equipment.

Through UNFPA’s implementing partner the National Midwives Associations, a total of 40 midwives in Aden, Taiz, and Hajjah governorates were also supported with solar systems.

This was made possible with the generous contributions from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
