UNFPA distributed over $600,000 worth of equipment to meet the reproductive health needs of women and their newborns in Ibb, with the support of the Government of Germany. These equipment would reach nearly 250,000 women of reproductive ages (15-49 years), of which 23,000 are estimated to be pregnant, across the governorate, including among those that have been internally displaced.

These emergency obstetric care equipment has been distributed to six hospitals and 10 health clinics to address complications during pregnancy and children birth, averting nearly 100 maternal deaths in the next nine months.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Governor of Ibb, Abdulwahad Salah stated “the health needs are beyond normal in Ibb, we have large number of IDPs arriving on a daily basis; even if this equipment has been delayed due to the current situation in the country, we have been desperately waiting for this equipment, and appreciate UNFPA’s efforts for this timely arrival”.

In addition, UNFPA is supporting the establishment of 13 private clinics for midwives; and continues to provide dignity kits and services to addresses issues of gender-based violence among conflict affected women and girls in Ibb.
