Nairobi, 13 November 2019 - Emy Hetari a Yemeni anime singer performed her newly released song entitled ‘What is my fault’, the song that captures the emotions of thousands of girls caught in the midst of war and displacement in Yemen.
Emy was awarded a UNFPA Award for leadership and commitment to achieving rights and choices for all on the occasion of the Nairobi Summit.
‘The selection comes in recognition of Emy’s outstanding commitment to advocating for the rights of women and girls, particularly in conflict situation, and vocalizing women’s vulnerability through music’ Said Dr Natalia Kanem, UNFPA Executive Director.
Emy expressed her happiness to be selected as the laureate of UNFPA award ,"this award is not only for me but for every girl in Yemen who is desperate for peace and yearning to reach her dreams," during her acceptance speech.
Emy Hetari is one of two laureates from Arab region who have been selected to receive the UNFPA Award.
