On 8 February, the United Nations and humanitarian partners launched the 2017 Humanitarian Response Plan with an international appeal for US$2.1 billion to provide life-saving assistance to 12 million people in Yemen in 2017. This is the largest consolidated humanitarian appeal for Yemen to be ever launched. UNFPA as part of this Plan has appealed for $22.1 million to meet the urgent sexual and reproductive health needs and prevent and respond to gender-based violence. 
 
The military operation on the Western Coast continued to intensify, with frontlines shifting north of Al Mukha City in Taizz Governorate. The conflict has resulted in at least 25,000 people fleeing the districts of Al Mukha and Dhubab in search of safety. During the same period, over 44,000 people have been displaced throughout Taizz Governorate
 
During a visit by Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Stephen O’Brien, in late February, he stated that nearly two thirds of the population need humanitarian or protection assistance with 7 million people at risk of famine. He urged all parties to the conflict to come together and make peace, highlighting that only sustainable peace can bring about the solutions, hope and future of Yemenis.
