The UNFPA Country Office in Yemen Sana’a is looking to fill the post of Youth Project Coordinator

Main Responsibilities:

This position reports to the Youth Programme Associate and will assist in developing, managing, monitoring and documenting the implementation progress of Youth, Peace and Security projects and initiatives.

Program Management & Quality:

  • Oversee the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of YPS project and ensure that they are in line with UNFPA Programming Principles and work plans.
  • Ensure that the monitoring and evaluation systems for the YPS project enhance accountability of CO as well as other stakeholders (civil society, UN agencies and government counterparts).
  • Ensure YPS project budget is controlled and expenditures are reported on a monthly basis, in addition to supporting the Implementing partners to prepare accurate budgeting and forecasting.
  • Work closely with the implementing partners to ensure YPS project implementation is carried out as planned and updated on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure consolidation and submission of timely reports.
  • Work closely with operations team (finance, procurement, HR, logistics, etc.) to ensure proper coordination exists for efficient project implementation.
  • Preform other related duties when required.

 

External & Internal Coordination:

  • Represent UNFPA at coordination meetings as requested by line manager.
  • Work with the IMS and line manager to produce necessary materials to disseminate information throughout UNFPA and externally. Such materials may include situation reports, fact sheets, briefing notes and any others as requested.
  • Coordinate with operations team to achieve project deliverables
  • Contribute to the conditions to ensure effective teamwork and morale and promote a productive work environment respectful of the Code of Conduct with zero tolerance for verbal and physical abuse or discrimination against other persons on the grounds of race, color, sex or creed.
  • Work closely with the UNFPA Communications Team to ensure that relevant communication materials (human interest stories, videos, etc) are developed
  • Support and be in charge of the Youth Unit in the absence of the Youth Programme Associate.

 

Program & Proposal Development:

  • Monitor and analyze new funding opportunities that align with YPS roadmap and allow the CO to meet the intended strategic objectives.
  • Assist in the proposal development process for all new funding opportunities.
  • Support in reviewing the assessments and baseline reports, which will help in preparing background information and date for the design of programmes and projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: 

  • University degree in Social Science, Development studies or related field.
  • Desired knowledge of frameworks of Youth Empowerment and Participation.

Required Competencies:

  • Experience in community mobilization, managing local partnerships and organizational capacity building.
  • Experience in capacity building, programme design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Solid understanding of Gender mainstreaming and conflict sensitive programme approaches.
  • Strong personnel leadership, communication, and capacity building skills.
  • High computer literacy with a full knowledge of office applications. 
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Fluency in Arabic required.
  • Excellent analysis and written skills for writing concept papers and design documents (including log frames and indicators).
  • Ability to manage stress, work under pressure, problem solve and make decisions.
  • Demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills in the face of unexpected challenges
  • Self-motivated with energetic approach
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments, organize own schedule, perform routine work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to continuously changing demands and multitasking.
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload under time pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team with peers as well as with multiple supervisors in a multicultural environment and to interrelate in an effective fashion with staff at all levels as well as with external counterparts.
  • Attention to detail.
